share your spark fridays ...

As I mentioned yesterday, I'm gonna' try something new on the ol' blog here ... starting today!

Share Your Spark Fridays!

(Hee hee hee ... like the orange and blue???  *wink*)

When you guys comment and leave links to YOUR blogs, I always enjoy checking them out ... but sometimes my day gets crazy or time just gets away from me (I'm sure everyone reading can relate to that!) and I don't always get to see the fun things you guys are creating.  So it's in that spirit of sharing creations and inspiration that I came up with this ...

Through the week I blog about all sorts of things: photos, cards, and other projects or tidbits about life in my little corner of the world.  Every Friday I'm going to pick something ... could be anything ... from one of that week's posts as inspiration to make something on Friday!  And every Friday morning you'll find the Share Your Spark Fridays inspiration listed here!  It could be anything: a color, a technique ... anything!  Some will be a simple prompt to create and some will be a bit more challenging!  My hope is that you'll take the inspiration as a challenge to create something of your own to share with me (and everyone else reading)!  Post it on your blog, get your friends to play along with you ... I can't wait to see what you create!

And the rules ... well, no rules really ... other than whatever you make fits the theme that Friday!  And nope ... you don't HAVE to do it ON Friday.  Play when you can!  However, my hope is that it gets you creating (and sharing) the same day or over the weekend!

So ... what are we waiting for!  Let's get going!!!

Earlier in the week I mentioned that I was soooo tired of cold weather and snow!  So in the spirit of looking forward to spring and warm, sunny weather we're gonna' get started with something easy ...

... make something (anything!) with sunny, warm, sping-like yellow as the most prominent color!

And then share your spark with the rest of us by leaving a link to what you create in a comment on this post!  (Hee hee ... I like my catchy little name for this ... can you tell?  *laugh*  I know, I'm a dork!)

Here is my yellow creation!

I have been having an absolute ball with the new A Muse clear stamps (and some old ones too)!  The branch and sentiment are from the new Sushi set and the flowers and dotted line are from the Personal Stationary Set (which I think is really, really versatile)!

I ventured away from my standard black or dark brown ink to go full color on this one.  I used ColorBox Fluid Chalk Ink (Chestnut Roan and Rouge) and I can't say enough good about the coverage I got (and the color of that brown)!  I *heart* that color brown!  Chestnut Roan ... remember that one!

I also added a little twinkle to the center of the flowers.  (Hey Adelina!  Look!  More liberal use of A Muse Twinkle Stickers! *wink*  Don't worry though ... I've ordered more!  *laugh*)  And while they look a wee dark in the photo, they're a pretty, bright yellow that matches the papaya notecard!

Now it's your turn! I can't wait to see YOUR yellow creations!

happy spring, elzybells style ...

Well ... almost spring!

I'm sooo done with snow and am ready for nice, warm days!  (And looks like I'm in luck!  Even though it's supposed to snow Sunday, Saturday is forecast to be in the 60's!!!  Woot!  Time to get my pretty pink bike out!)  But I digress ...

I can't get enough of these 4-bar Kitchen notecards.  I mean, seriously ... they're adorable.  And now that they come in a bazillion colors ... I love 'em even more!

And I don't know what it is about blue and orange right now, but that's been my go-to color combo lately.  (At least the colors I WANT to go-to.  I'm having to pry myself away from it. *laugh*)  But ... a little every now and again is ok, right?  *laugh*

I colored this little Elzybells chick in with Copics and punched it using the pink Marvy square scalloped punch!  Easy peasy!

ETA: Check out the Elzybells blog today ... they're sharing two cards!  One by Melissa and one by me (and guess what color combo it is?!  See, I told you!  *laugh*)

And ... I thought I'd try something new around here starting tomorrow!  A few blogs I read have themed days.   So ... taking inspiration from those blogs and from the fun challenges on the A Muse Addicts forum ... I'm gonna' have a "challenge" of sorts here every Friday!  Could be a technique, a color ... who knows!?  We'll see how it goes, if anyone plays along, etc. ... should be fun!  Check back tomorrow for more details and the first challenge!  I hope you'll play along!

all about you ...

... is the theme of this week's challenge on the A Muse Addicts forum and I thought I'd play along!  The challenge is to make a card that tells someone something about you ... well, I like the Eiffel Tower.  *laugh*

Those of you that have stuck with the blog through my move-induced-papercrafting-draught know that Dave and I moved back to the US from Europe last fall (we had lived in a teeny tiny village on Germany's border with France).  One of the many perks about our location was that Paris was a daytrip for us.  And, like so many others, I fell head over heels in love with that beautiful city.

Even though I've now been to Paris more times that I can count, not once did I ever NOT feel like the luckiest person alive to be there.  I was always saying to Dave ... "I can't believe we just DROVE to Paris!"  It was amazing.  I got to go with my husband, my Mom (twice!), our friends ... and I have great memories and stories from those trips.  (I laugh so hard I cry nearly every time I think of the antics my friend Emily and I experienced in the Metro on the eve of her 30th birthday!)

And no matter how cliche it is ... I love the Eiffel Tower!  No matter how many times I saw it or photographed it, it never lost it's grace or magic to me.  Especially at night ...

... and that's what inspired my simple little card up there!  Glittery moon and all!

And just for fun: a few of my favorite photos of the tower at night  ...

Bastille Day (14 July) in Paris ... fireworks and the Eiffel Tower is a hard combo to beat.  *grin*

Thanks for looking!

happy birthday, mom ...

This is my Mom ... and today is her birthday!

And even though she's on the other side of the country, I still managed to send her a piece of cake!  *wink*  (Inspired by a card in Paper Crafts magazine.)

Happy Birthday, Mom!

you gotta' see this ...

Best synopsis of Star Wars EVER ... three-year-old or not!  Dave and I cracked up!  And what a cutie!

"The shiny guy always worries ..."  I love it!

scrapbooking a*muse style ...

Wow!  How about that VMAA the other night on the A Muse Addicts forum!?!  The gals did a super job organizing it, didn't they?  I saw so many great cards ... really enjoyed checking out how everyone interpreted the challenges!  I hope you guys had as much fun as I did!  (And thanks to all who stopped by and/or left a comment on the ol' blog here!)

And now onto a little bit o' scrappin' ... A Muse style!

I love to make mini books!  And this one was especially fun ... using nothing but A Muse goodness: notecards, Creative Candy, ribbon, and stamps!  And what better to put in it than photos of the A Muse crew.  (Albeit, just a  few of them.  The only drawback to the book ... I wish I'd had photos of everyone to include in it.  Next time!)  Hope you enjoy seeing a few pages from it!

My plan was a simple one: punch pages from different colors of A Muse cardstock, punch a photo for one side, and stamp and journal on the flip-side.  I thought this cute cocktail/martini glass was a perfect match for the photo of Heidi and Cindy on the flipside.

Heidi and Cindy ...

And what other stamp could I have possibly picked for Jenn besides the flip-flops!?

Jenn ...

The Eiffel Tower stamp and this adorable camera are my ALL-TIME A Muse favorites!  (And that's saying a LOT because I LOVE my A Muse stamps!)  But come on ... HOW cute is that camera!?  It's perfect for scrapping!

A shot from the A Muse booth at CHA ...

There were sooo many palm trees in Anaheim!  Seriously ... they were everywhere!  Another perfect match for the journaling I wanted to do!

And have you paid close attention to my journaling block (or circle in this case)?  I made it with A Muse's
Fancy Borders clear set
!  How cool is that?!  It was easy peasy to do ...

  1. Punch a hole in a scrap piece of paper.  This will be your template (use the same punch you plan to use for your journaling block).
  2. Lay the template on your clear stamping block.
  3. Line up the clear border stamp along the inside edge of the punched template.  Once you've pressed just a bit to secure it in place ... stamp away!

How cool is that?!  Stuff like this makes these clear sets even more versatile!

Linda, Julie, and Jenn ...

The back of the book!

This was sooo fun to make!  And using a big punch for the pages and photos made it QUICK to put together too!  (And who doesn't love THAT!?  Finishing something = good!)  *smile*

vmaa challenge no. 4 ...

Holy moly ... I think I need to go to bed now!  I'm mentally spent!  *laugh*

The fourth and final challenge was from Jennie: good things come in threes (use three of something on your card)!

I don't know what's up with me and red tonight.  *laugh*  But hey, whatever works in a hurry in this case, right?  *grin*

I've always really liked this vespa stamp!  And what's better than one?  Three!  Especially if they're glittered!

Wow!  What a night!  Lots of fun ... and the fastest stamping I've EVER done!  *laugh*  I'm a planner.  A thinker-outer.  So maybe this was good for me.  *laugh*

Thanks to Michelle, Geeta, Rhonda, and Jennie for pulling this all together for us!  Can't wait to do it again!

vmaa challenge no. 3 ...

I think this is gonna' be the fastest two hours of my life!  Wowza!

Challenge no. 3 was from Rhonda: a sketch challenge!

Great sketch, Rhonda!

vmaa challenge no. 2 ...

Second challenge of the night was from Geeta: a masculine card for an adult!  Whew ... this is a hard one!

But here's what I came up with!  My hubby, Dave, is a football nut (oh, no ... it's not called "soccer" in our house *laugh*)!  I'm talking take-the-afternoon-off-work-to-watch-a-game-that's-on-in-the-afternoon-because-of-the-US-UK-time-difference nutty!  (Oh yeah, did that earlier this week!)  And since he's an Arsenal fan and their colors are red and white ... voila!  (Looks like I got his birthday card out of the way early this year!  *wink*)

When all else fails ... play to their favorite sports team, I say.  *wink*

This was a tough one, Geeta

(Sorry for the slightly blurry photo (but my crafty space is a real cave at night!)

vmaa challenge no. 1 ...

Here we go!  First challenge of the night was from Michelle: don't color your image in!

Yep ... I reached for my favorite!  And while I was tempted to just use this card from an earlier post ... I was good and made a new one!  *wink*

Challenge no. 2 will be coming up fast ... stay tuned!
