share your spark fridays ...

Happy Friday, everyone!  I'm so excited about crafy stuff today!  I can't wait to share the progress on my October Daily with you, but first things, first!  It's Friday!  And you know what that means around here: share your spark fridays!  *insert fanfare and cheering here*  *laugh*

Before we get to this week's spark, I want to thank everyone who was able to play along last week by making a card with polka dots on it ... in some way!

Lee Anne

A big thank you to everyone who played along, some for the very first time!  There's some CUTE stuff in that list ... be sure to check 'em out!

I've been looking forward to October sparks for a while now!  I've planned some fun things for you this month - I hope you think so too!

With Halloween right around the corner (!!!), I start thinking about candy and treats for the little squirts I know (and big ones)!  And it's so much fun to package 'em up all cute (the treats, not the kids *wink*)!  So today's spark is ...

Make a treat container or gift packaging ...

How fun is this gonna' be!?  And you don't have to make somthing for Halloween, it could be for anything at all!  There are a LOT of templates out there (like the one I mentioned in this post or this one) and ... there are a lot of origami folds that make adorable "boxes" and "bags" too!  Which is what I did ...

Not only was this easy to make, it's a good size too!  Most of the containers I've made in the past are small - really perfect for candy, but not much more.  This one is actually gift bag size!  I added a bit of patterned paper, did a little stamping and punching, and it was done!  Gotta' love that!

Here's a view of the side.  I cut a scrap of black cardtock to make the handle: which is 12 x 3/4 inches long and attached with brads.

So how did I fold this to make it a box?

Hopefully this will help a little (please try to ignore the stuff scattered over my table - the October Daily book has consumed my life!  *lol*).

I took a 12x12 sheet of cardstock, scored it at 3" and 9".  Then turned it once and scored it at 4 1/2 and 7 1/2 - these score marks cross over the first ones.  Then I fold on all the lines.

Here's where the origami gets a little tricky!  I'm gonna' do my best to try to explain what I did, ...

See the bits that will make up the skinny side of the box?  Look at that top portion in the photo - see the diagonal lines on either side?  Those are made by taking the "outside point" of the small square made by scoring, and folding it down to meet the other scored line.  You do that on both sides (you'll see this in the top and bottom of the photo).  Then it all folds together!

I used sticky strip (the "red tape") to adhere the sides - the only place that needs any adhesive!

(Feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions!)

Now it's your turn!  I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of gift packaging you guys create!  And don't forget to share your spark by leaving a comment on this post with a link to what you make!
